Pat Handley moved from Malvern to Monmouth in 2015.
As a mature student 30 years ago, she studied General Art and Design and then fine art in Birmingham. After finishing college Pat first worked in water colours for 10 years on a wide range of subjects. The most rewarding of these were caricatures of social life around Birmingham and the illustration of several children’s books.
She then changed to painting in oils and acrylics. She has always been particularly inspired by the interplay of light and texture in actual settings. Her paintings are full of contrast and balance and have a depth of colour and content.
Pat has recently concentrated on capturing water reflections of Italian lakeside settings. Here the focus has moved to a minimum of critical basic shapes whilst still using a challenging palette of colours. She is also by contrast exploring large skyscapes with dramatic light effects on clouds.
Having exhibited widely in local exhibitions in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, she then held several solo exhibitions in Malvern and Hereford. Her last major exhibition was as part of Hereford in Art week when she displayed over 100 paintings around her home. Her work now hangs in many locations both in the UK and abroad.
Pat has also taught art both privately and for U3A groups.
