Sandrina’s journey to developing artistic skills was thanks to an inspiring course at Hereford Art College, a visit to experiment in the Blacksmiths Department and an opportunity to work with fire and copper in the metal workshop. She began by developing her ideas of turning a flat piece of metal into a three dimensional form.
She takes most of inspiration from studying nature – she collects pieces of gnarled wood to which copper is added to make functional bowls and garden sculptures. She also applies her love of working with fire by using an 18th century Japanese technique called Shou -sugi -ban. This technique blackens and scores the wood which preserves it and helps repel insects.
She has exhibited and sold work at Canwood Gallery and the annual Showborough House Garden Sculpture Exhibition. She has also been a member of Frogmore Gallery for several years.
