Alex Brown

Alex is a modern colourist. He studied at Camberwell School of Art  in London from 1984 to 1987, attaining a degree in Fine Art Painting.  His influences are Cezanne, Van Gogh and Matisse. Using brush and palette knife he has developed his style, which is a play between representation and abstraction.

He uses colour to create a form of vibrant reality rather than using detail. His mark making works against forms to question space.

"A painting can be like a poem, the essence of knowledge and feeling.  For me, colour is a subject in itself, rather than a specific of a place and time"

Alex will also be running a workshop on Saturday 19th August and a demo on Sunday 20th August.
